Widows and Orphans Empowerment Project

The U.S. Embassy supports local organizations with smaller grants to directly intervene in community development, good governance, and refugee assistance. Among these programs supporting Nigerien communities, the oldest and best known is the Ambassadors' Special Self-Help Fund (SSH). The SSH program allows U.S. embassies to quickly respond to local requests for small community development projects. It is within this framework that the NGO BERANDI obtained financial support from the SSH of the U.S. Embassy in Niger in September 2024. The project focuses on the empowerment of widows and orphans through income-generating activities (IGAs) in the Niamey 1 Communal District (Bobiel and Dar Es Salaam).
